Hello, welcome back to my blog.
This week I have went out to gather all my equipment needed. I went to Dicks Sporting goods to get my equipment. What I need to do my project is lacrosse mesh, sidewall strings, and bottom strings. When I went to go buy the materials needed they had many different types. The type of equipment I bought was stringking, which is a popular lacrosse brand. I chose to buy my items from this brand because although it is pretty expensive, the quality of their products are very good. Another reason I bought these items is because it is what I currently have and to be consistent in the future I like to buy the same things. In lacrosse consistency is very important. So now that I have all my necessary equipment, now I can begin the process of learning to string lacrosse heads. I have attempted once before and it was very difficult. Next week I will research all of the different way you can string lacrosse heads and I hopefully will learn enough to actually do a good job. Hey guys, welcome back to my next blog post. Now that I have a torn ACL and cannot shoot lacrosse I am going to change things up. Since I can't really practice much I will practice stringing lacrosse heads.
Learning how to string lacrosse sticks will help out a lot because if you dont know how to string sticks when you buy one you have to wait then pay someone to do it for you and after that you just have to hope it's good. The equipment needed for this is a lacrosse head, mesh, and strings. Since I already have a head, all I will need to buy is mesh and strings. All together this will cost me about $30. This week in genius hour started well. I was practicing and I could notice my improvement. I was getting much better at shooting lacrosse. My form was better, my accuracy and shot speed was all getting better each week, until I got injured.
I was in a game and I was running until all the sudden I felt a pop in my knee. It was pretty painful because as of now I cannot fully bend my knee or really even walk all that well. Because of this injury I will now have to change up how I proceed with this project so this week instead of doing that shooting test I will tell you guys a little about how this project affected me personally. Last season during lacrosse I was working very hard but I couldn't seem to do very well. My shot and passing was off and frankly I was not very good. The start of the season I was getting better, but it was not where I wanted to be. Towards the second or third week of this project I could definitely see a huge improvement. I was doing well in practice as well in the games. I went from scoring one goal all last season to scoring 12 in my first 6 games. Although there are other factors that affect this I believe this project has helped me so far. Hello welcome to my next blog post.
This week I did many different things to help me improve in this project. The first thing I did was a thing called wallball. Basically that is just passing a lacrosse ball against a wall. This was extremely helpful in getting my form and footwork down. After I did this for an hour or two I practiced shooting at different targets for an hour. After I spent a couple hours warming up and practicing I set up the target area for me to shoot in and see how many I make. This week was a great success. I managed to only miss two, so I made 14 out of 16. After a good week this week, I plan to repeat some of my practice drills and hopefully I will make in 16 out of 16. Hey guys, it has been a hard, long week since I have last posted a blog. I have done many things in the past week to work on this project and improve a lot
This week I decided to go up to my coach and ask what I can do to improve. He said since I have my footwork and form down the best thing I could do to improve is just practice shooting for a couple hours and just do drills. This week I spent a total of three hours just practicing shooting lacrosse with both of my hands. After spending a significant amount of time this week practicing, I attempted to do the shooting test again. Out of 16 shots I made 10. This score is the same but I got last week, but although it is the same score, I have noticed the accuracy of my shots are getting closer and closer to the middle of the target area. It has been a week since I posted my last blog and in this week i have learned a lot.
After my last shooting attempt I wanted to do a lot better this week so I worked with my coach many times during the week to get tips and tricks to improve. One thing he said to me which stood out was to shoot for accuracy, not power. As he said this I realized that the one thing I was trying to do while shooting was to shoot hard. I did the accuracy test again and found that if I focused on shooting at just the right spot instead of shooting as fast as i could it went a lot better. I made 10 of my 16 shots which is a good improvement. This week I want to improve even more by just practicing shooting and working towards my accuracy before i begin to shoot harder. Next week I want to strive to have 13 out of 16 of my shots go in Hello, welcome to my second blog
Over the past week I have been learning how to shoot lacrosse more accurately. I have received some tips from my coach. He has told me to make sure I follow through with my shot, and make sure I have good footwork. I have also bought all the supplies I needed to set up the target area in my lacrosse goal and I have done my first attempt. My first attempt at shooting went pretty much as thought. I made 7 out of 16 which is under half. I was hoping to make at least half of the balls in but that gives me some room for improvement. Over the next week I will have my coach give me some suggestions on what to do to improve my score for next time. For my next attempt I hope to make in at least 9 out of 16. I am excited to see the outcome and my improvement over the next few weeks and hopefully by the end I can consistently make them all in. Hello, welcome to my first blog ever.
Over the next 12 weeks I will be posting my blogs about my genius hour right here. For my project, I have chosen to try and improve my lacrosse shooting accuracy. Each week I will be testing my accuracy by shooting at a target inside of my lacrosse goal. I will shoot the ball 16 times and calculate my accuracy from how many I make in. Over the course of each week, I will have my mentor give me tips and tricks on how to shoot better and more consistently. He will show me what I am doing wrong and how I can improve. I will be challenged because the target are will be very small and hard to hit. My goal each week is to improve and hopefully learn how to become a better lacrosse player. At the end of the 12 weeks I expect to be able to hit the target all 16 times without missing. This should be a fun project and hopefully I will improve. I look forward to completing this project and posting my blogs about it each week. |
